A volunteer hotline is expected later this week — stay tuned for updates.
Central Texas, particularly around Kerrville, has suffered catastrophic flooding over the past 48 hours. The latest news reports are that 32 people are known to have died, including 14 children. There are at least 27 children missing from a church camp along the Guadalupe River.
The flooding is in the heart of Rotary District 5840, where Craig Hardy is District Governor. District 5770 Assistant Governor Kyle Hurley and I participated in a call with DG Hardy and fourteen other DGs and Emergency Response Committee members from our region. At present, the victims' immediate needs for food, water, medicine, and shelter are being taken care of. However, a longer-term plan is being developed for recovery after the first responders leave. That plan will include a wide-ranging request for donations to defray costs that are not covered by insurance or FEMA.
In a few days, we will have information regarding what we can do to assist, including where cash donations can be sent. In the meantime, please keep our neighbors in your prayers and think about whether you -- individually or your club -- would like to contribute to the relief effort. More details will follow.
Michael Ridgeway, District Governor 2025-2026
