The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation under the laws of the state of Illinois, USA.  It is operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.  The foundation's mission is accomplished through grants that build peace, prevent disease, provide clean water, support maternal and child health, promote education, and support local economies.
 
Contributions of any size may be made to three funds:
1. ANNUAL FUND, the primary source of funding for the grants and activities of the foundation. Contributions are used approximately three years after they are contributed.
2. ENDOWMENT FUND, the fund from which available earnings are spent in support of Foundation grants and activities. The objective is to insure maintenance of a minimum level of grant activity and facilitates new or expanded programs in the future.
3. POLIOPLUS FUND, which pays all grants made in support of the PolioPlus program and its goal of the worldwide eradication of poliomyelitis.
